Swapping out a stock engine for a larger one is something we've all fantasized about at one point or another, and though the idea of having a street sleeper is rather tantalizing, very few of us ever get around to doing it. One "fightin'" fellow in the land of lederhosen, Peter Huppertsberg, made the move, though. He shoehorned a Kawasaki Z1000 motor into his Z750 frame for a bit of extra punch and streetfighter attitude and even went so far as to reposition the ignition and starter motor so it hangs out in the wind (it was really out of necessity to make the bigger motor fit, but it looks cool regardless).
Outrageous bikini-style upper fairings are another streetfighter standard, and Huppertsberg pushed his demonic theme over the top with a trick Bimbo "666" upper that he's had a custom spray laid over. Bimbo was also the supplier for the angular front fender, lower fairing, rear hugger and "shorty" tailpiece. The subframe was tailored down to offer the popular upswept look.
On the performance end, other than the obvious motor upgrade, a smart dual set of Laser cans let the monster breathe easy, and a set of tidy ABM rearsets keep the rider comfortable.
Though the traditional and somewhat extreme German streetfighter isn't everyone's idea of a good time, there are those who absolutely dedicate themselves to the scene and lifestyle of these bikes. Maybe on a smaller scale, it's like Americans who prefer sauerkraut on their hot dogs to stadium mustard-not exactly the norm, but then why would you want to be?
