2004 Suzuki Hayabusa - Bigger In Texas

Charlie Anstaett is a 53-year old Texan who spends his days working as a superintendent for a steel company, but in his spare time he has been chasing his dream to own and ride the fastest street going motorcycle in the world. He first competed in land speed racing with a stock 'Busa, then later with a 1397cc engine followed by a 1507cc built motor.

Since speed records are course specific it's hard to compare the speed at one track versus another, but Charlie has competed at both the Texas Mile and the ECTA event known as the Maxton Monster Mile and recorded passes of over 250mph at both venues.

The "over 250mph club" on a street bike is a very exclusive one and Charlie is now a member. Making a pass over 250mph also entitles him to the AA land speed motorcycle license-held by only a select few people in the world.

Charlie's bike is not the typical trailer queen like you may expect either. He started this project with a call to Dave Owen at Lee's Performance and basically sent him the bike and a blank check. Dave-O knew what he faced in order to build a bike that would hopefully go faster than his boss' ride (260.288mph), and he also knew that it would take more power, more traction and better electronics. With the blank check in hand, Dave-O spent over $28,000 on top of the bike's cost. The heart of the bike is the RCC Ultra Turbo System from Richard's Custom Cycle in Canada. The turbo system was then upgraded with an even bigger Garrett GT-40 turbo.

By the time Dave-O finished working his magic on the bike it was cranking out an insane 636 hp with over 300 lb-ft of torque. Even without the aid of the AMS-1000 boost controller, the bike makes 325 hp on the 11 psi wastegate spring and can be (and is) ridden on the street in this ridiculous state of tune.

Even though Charlie has yet to reach his ultimate goal of cracking 260 mph, he does have a whole sack full of 240 and 250mph passes (with a best pass of 256 mph), and on a street legal machine nonetheless. That's what a big budget and even bigger balls will get ya.
