After flipping his Hayabusa at 125 mph, Dodge decided it was as good a time as any to build a streetfighter...
After throwing what was left of the bodywork in the bin along with most everything else apart from the frame, swingarm, wheels, forks and engine, he set about modifying the remains in his own distinctive style. And by that we mean a seating position so high it would give most people a nose bleed. But Dodge prefers it that way because when the front wheel is in the air he's perfectly comfortable.
After looking at the cost of repairing and modifying the original beat up gas tank he discovered that a custom tank would only cost a couple hundred bucks more. Other stuff like HEL stainless steel lines, new rearsets and handlebars as well as an Akrapovic exhaust system and a Power Commander were added, along with an all-black powdercoat treatment and a custom paint job.
This "Stage 1" build was fine for about a year or so, but it didn't take long before Dodge was itching for something a bit more lively. The chassis diet started with a pair of Dymag carbon fiber wheels, Braking Wave rotors with carbon fiber carriers and every single nut, bolt, washer, spindle and pin replaced with titanium or aluminium alternatives. The stock Suzuki brake calipers were machined for a substantial weight savings and all of the threaded steel inserts in the frame were replaced with alloy inserts.
The engine was the next order of business, and it got all the goodies to go along with a 1397cc big-bore treatment to the block. But Dodge still wasn't pleased with 199 HP at the wheel, so he continued on his horsepower quest until he found just the ticket-a supercharger.
To make the engine suitable for the supercharger application Dodge and his engine builder realized that the motor would require more than just a simple overhaul. A new smaller capacity cylinder block was used with 1365cc MTC 10:1 pistons and Cometic gaskets in order to lower the compression to a "charger friendly" 9.35:1 ratio. Falicon conrods were used along with the original gas-flowed cylinder head and WEB cams.
Lots of tuning time, many mods and pulley changes later and the dyno netted 281 HP at the tire. Much like a tuned normally aspirated motor, the engine is a touch lumpy at idle and the heavy duty clutch springs fitted do make riding around town a bit of a chore, but that's missing the point. Out on the road it is, as so eloquently put by Dodge, "Fucking awesome! It's like having a three-liter Hayabusa under your ass!"
