Thankfully, a translator wasn’t needed to decipher what is one of the wildest streetfighters ever to find its way onto the SSB roundtable (though we could have used one to determine what the bike’s owner/builder expained to us). It only took a few clicks of the mouse to realize Joel Muller of Furax-Bikes had something special.
How often do you spot a fighter of this caliber stateside? Letting it all hang out is more of a Euro thing but that doesn’t mean going the naked route isn’t worthy of admiration. A streetfighter at this level is an amalgamation of fabrication, wild ideas and raw customization. For some, like Joel, it doesn’t get any better. When he attacked the streets of Saint-Cyprien, France, on his radical 1993 GSX-R1100W creation people took notice.
Joel’s life and business revolve around this niche bike group. Hard edges, brass knuckle etchings, stir the deaf exhaust, a kinked subframe approach—the entire package has an unsettling awe about it. Much of the fabrication and paintwork was done in-house while performance parts such as the hard-biting Beringer brakes and Ducati 1098 rear shock were outsourced. A ’96 version of the GSX-R1100 motor bolted into a frame from 1993 and modern day tech helped squeeze out extra power. The tri-tip Laser exhaust for a 2006 Kawi 636 barks fumes skyward as a Preparation Power Hypersport stage 3 carburetor kit and Vance & Hines PowerPak keeps combustion pounding.
Polished to perfection, the beauty of this bike is in its attitude. Whether stretched or stripped bare, respect is due to the dedicated and this international brawler put in the work.
