Death's dark cloud has covered this bike in more than just the paint scheme. The company that originally began the build eventually filed bankruptcy, and its demise left Arthur "Pops" Pierce's 2006 Suzuki Hayabusa in a state of limbo. It seemed his half-completed bike was destined to finish out its days in a semi-built shell, but after a rather trying court ordeal, Pierce was able to get it returned. Getting your bike down to business is hard when you can't actually find the business that's building it, but Pierce finally got what was his.
The 'Busa's second deal with the devil came from Florida's Straight Up Customs bike shop, where new life was breathed into the project, and the goal was to build something that could suck the soul out of other showbikes.
Pierce's original plan was to have a sinister, medieval-inspired tone, and when he delivered it to Straight Up Customs he explained his ideas. "I wanted a marble textured look on the swingarm and triple tree, with flaming skulls and tribal markings elsewhere to give it an evil executioner's feel."
Crypt Keeper The eerie paint...
Crypt Keeper
The eerie paint supports he bike's name.
It's almost as if wheel company RC Components had this exact idea in mind when it designed the jagged "Havoc" wheel. The sharp pattern certainly resembles the type of weapon that a murderous madman might use in some dark and evil fantasy world, and Pierce's ride is the perfect host for the unique design.
The multi-layered paint is an intricate mix of dark souls and sharp tribal patterns, and the overall effect is accentuated with the unique finish on the swingarm. Instead of a chromed or polished chassis, Pierce went with the more ominous marble-style finish, which does a nice job of creating a mysterious base for the rest of the dark imagery. The tribal pattern also spills onto the frame for a bit of eye trickery that we don't see often enough.
Keeping the fat 300 rear end rolling right is an air suspension-mandatory kit for a custom Hayabusa. The trick components don't end there, though, and the hidden nitrous purge system offers a cool stream of steam at the press of a button.
As this 'Busa makes its way around the show circuit, it plans on living up to its name and passing out the punishment that inferior rides have coming to them. The smart ones will clear a path and stay out of its way.
