Who are you and what do you do?
I'm Gregg from Gregg's Customs. I make aftermarket sportbike parts and build custom bikes. I started full time in May of 2003.
How long do you think the custom bike scene will be popular?
As long as humans are on the planet there will always be some people who are into motorcycles.
Has it reached its peak?
Although it's now more mainstream, I still think it's gaining in popularity.
What do you think the next trend in custom bikes is going to be?
You never can tell, but right now I like a 240mm tire with a relatively short wheelbase. It looks tough and still performs the way a sportbike should.
Run us through a typical day for you.
Get into the shop, answer e-mails and phone calls all day. Then try to get some work done in between e-mails and phone calls. At around 4 p.m. things start to get a little quiet and I am able to get into the shop and get down to business. Then it's back to answering more e-mails and phone calls. I try to get out of here by 8 p.m.
What is the best trick you've ever performed in a rental car?
I can go on for hours with this one. Once, we had an Olds Alero or something like that and we found a steep hill with some moss on the road. After letting the car do a little rollback and a neutral drop, we were able to get the tire spinning. That thing would just sit there and burn the tire for days! Gravity wouldn't let it get up the hill and we got some nice burners. I'll tell you about the construction site jump next time.
What is the best $40 you ever spent?
Pizza and beer with my guys after finishing a bike or big project.
What's the fastest you've been on two wheels, and what bike was it on?
I had my 2000 R1 that indicated 168 mph for a bit.
What are you riding presently?
I commute either on my Hellion or the GC-1000. My R1 is a little neglected these days. I've got a little XR-70 shop bike that we mess around on in the parking lot, also. Sometimes that's more fun than the big bikes.
Stock/240/300/360-what's your favorite size and why?
Nothing bigger than a 240. I really like that new Pirelli Diablo 240. It works great and looks killer. That's all you need.
What would you do with the last gallon of gas on Earth?
Sell it on eBay.
Person you most admire?
My dad has the permanent title for that.
What's the achievement you're most proud of?
Starting my business from nothing and making a living doing what I do.
What would have been your alternate career?
Before I started my shop I worked in the semiconductor industry. I'd probably still be there otherwise.
Have you ever skinned a rabbit for food?
No. Why would I do that when I can just hit up the In-N-Out Burger down the road?
You've got the choice of three magic powers; fly like a bird, read peoples' minds or invisibility. Which would you choose and why?
I think it would be pretty sick to fly like a bird. If I could do that, I wouldn't need to be invisible or read peoples' minds because I'd be that famous guy that can fly like a bird.
Who's your favorite rider and why?
That's a tough one. I think Rossi still owns everyone out there.
Hard alcohol, beer, shots or wine?
Mostly mixed drinks, sometimes beer, rarely shots or wine.
