Frequently, the first words after a ride from anybody new to the 950SM is along the lines of "amazing brakes!" And for good reason. The radial Brembo calipers work with an adjustable master cylinder for some of the strongest brakes available on a production bike. Though they ultimately apply their pressure through a seemingly less than grippy Pirelli Scorpion (though it performs perfectly with this application) they all do the job magnificently.More high end components are found up front as well with 43mm WP forks that offer plenty of travel to soak up bumps and small jumps. And though the large amount of travel seems excessive on paper the ride isn't spongy or vague, and around town it's the most comfortable bike of the lot.
Getting up to speed is just as much fun as slowing down, and the 950cc twin thumps along nicely. Gearing for the city is just right, while on the highway you'll rarely find a need for top gear. Gearshifts can be abit sloppy occasionally, but if you ride it rough it won't argue. Remember, this isn't a sleek and sophisticated sportbike, but more of a dual sport bike with a steroid injection.
Unfortunately KTM has pulled the 950SM from its 2008 line in the US, but used models can be found all over-and usually at a decent price. For what this thing offers in performance it'd be worth every penny.

Teach's opinion: "The KTM is definitely the most fun bike to ride out of the three. Phenomenal brakes and a motor with more than enough power make for effortless wheelies and stoppies, while the dirtbike-esque handling allows for quick maneuverability with long power slides easily thrown in for good measure. it's a recipe for fun...or trouble!"

John's opinion: "I'm a shoe-in at the next one-legged man ass kicking contest after all the practice I got coming to a stop on the KTM. I think I'm just too short to ride Supermoto bikes. Aside from that, the KTM's power train punches like Mike Tyson with brakes that stop the abuse like a restraining order."
