"My mechanic, Dave Owen, gave me more than a great bike and a stack of records-he gave me friendship, and together we were able to accomplish a lot in one short season."
The Unlimited class was contested by several well-known riders, but in the end, it was none other than Dave Owen who would take the title again making this his third time winning the class. Dave's first and only pass of the meet was on Saturday, when he posted a rock solid 215.90 mph pass aboard his 1507cc-Big Poppa Pimp Hayabusa.

Maxton's only other three-time class winner, Don Hass, again took the 1000cc power adder class aboard his Suzuki GSX-R1000 featuring a Velocity Racing turbo kit. Viewed from the starting line, Don was seen smoking the tire in the first four gears of every pass as the bike banged off the rev-limiter. He finally hooked it up enough for a 209.57 mph run.
Winning the 1000cc naturally aspirated class was two-time victor Chad Millholland. His speed was an impressive 197.52 mph, which wasn't bad for a four-year-old Ninja. "The ZX-10 is a great bike and once again proved to be the fastest naturally aspirated liter bike at the event."

Rip Dave Owen
Dave Owen was tragically killed while competing at the Maxton ECTA event. He'd just completed a pass at over 215 mph when an accident occurred, and an investigation is currently underway to determine the cause.
Not only was Dave a fierce competitor who held countless records aboard his own naturally aspirated Hayabusa, but he also helped many others set records as their builder and tuner.
He died doing what he loved-riding a motorcycle. Dave was survived by two children, 12-year-old Jake and 20-year-old Josh, and their mother, Lauren.
