People don't realize you have a roadracing background? Tell us more.
I've been racing for 14 years and have numerous regional and national championships. I'm currently in the AMA GT series. I think if I was of a smaller stature, I could have gone a lot further. Unfortunately being 6'2" and 210 pounds isn't conducive to motorcycle racing. That's really my passion though.
I got into the custom bikes to keep me honest on the street. On the racetrack we get the opportunity to push the bikes to the limits and get our aggression out. I'm a very competitive person, I like to be the best at whatever I do.
What is the current state of the custom scene? How has it changed?
It's just a growing market that is evolving. Custom sportbikes are awesome motorcycles. They are something beautiful, but still perform and are fun to ride. Hopefully the market will become a little more performance driven. I still think it's just the beginning.
If you could only pick one bike to have, a race bike or a custom, which would it be?
I couldn't do that. I like to have a particular bike for a particular purpose. It's hard to get the best of both worlds. You have to sacrifice somewhere. If I'm getting on a racetrack, I want a full tilt race bike. If I'm on a custom, I want to be the king of bling. The street is a good place for a mix. It is a place where you can have a bike that can perform as much as it needs to and still look good.
What pisses you off about the custom scene?
Manufacturers who copy parts after hard work of other designers rather than create their own.
What can we expect in the future from Roaring Toyz?
We've brought on some new talent. We are going to be doing some more fabrication and building some chassis and kit bike type parts. We've been adding more CNC machines, and with our increased capabilities we'll be able to increase the customization of the bikes and bring them to a higher level.
If you could travel back in time, to what year would you go?
Wouldn't do it. Why look backwards? My race bike doesn't have mirrors on it. I want to keep pushing forward.
What are you worth purely in monetary terms?
You couldn't afford it!
