You wouldn't go out and buy an appliance for your house without doing a little research first, right? The same should be true when it comes to getting new gear or parts for your bike, and that's where our top picks of the year come into play. After wrapping our hands around everything that's new in the industry we've rounded up the best of the best. OK, so some of our picks such as the prettiest model or hottest custom paint job are pretty subjective, but the rest of SSB's top picks for 2010 are to help give you ideas and some insight into products you might be considering or haven't even heard about. Here they are, SSB's Best of 2010.
Scorpion Skull Bucket Jacket
While I'm typically not the "skull" type of guy, the Skull Bucket from Scorpion is killin' it with its dope style and great functionality. The thermal liner keeps you warm during cold rides and the vents keep you cool on the steamers. It has enough pockets for all of my crap, has been durable enough to withstand the daily commute and retails for a scratch under two Benjamins; I'd say that's a recipe for success. And if skulls just aren't your thing, Scorpion has plenty of other styles available.

Alpinestars Grease Monkey Jacket
I'm a huge fan of old school rockabilly and hot rod-inspired clothing, and the A-star Grease Monkey fits the flipped bill. I love the fact that I look like I should be carrying a wrench and have some grease on my face, yet not so much like a tool when I'm riding. It has crash protection integrated within, which means I feel comfortable and safe when riding around town.

Icon Alliance Hi-Viz Helmet
A lot of helmets show up in our office each month, and while the Icon Alliance Hi-Viz trumps even the highest-end lids where it matters most-accident prevention. A rider wearing one of these helmets is much more visible than one wearing something with cool (but dark) graphics. Even on the brightest sunny days the vivid neon paint is highly visible and therefore-safe.
