How did you get started in the biz?
Like many in radio, I started out as an intern. After a year of free morning show labor, the Operations Manager noticed that I was working circles around the other interns and brought me on board as an assistant.
What's it like being a part of one of the largest radio shows in the country?
It's unlike any other job in the world. It's ridiculously fast paced. Whether it's the Kevin and Bean Show or running KROQ.com, the fastest you can go is rarely fast enough. Normal life is like watching water boil. I end up losing patience with everything and everyone. I expect all stories to be told in nine minutes.
As far as cool factor, this job has to be one of the best. I've met nearly every major celebrity as well as every band I've ever been interested in.
What type of bikes have you owned?
I've owned a CBR600RR, GSX-R750 and myriad dirt bikes and quads. Both sportbikes were pretty modded out. But because of the job, being on the radio and having my own page on KROQ.com (Lightning's Garage), I've had the fortune of riding a slew of loaner bikes. BMW, KTM, Suzuki, Can-Am and Yamaha have all graciously let me borrow bikes and more. It's one hell of a job perk!
What other types of crazy rides have you owned?
As far as crazy goes, I'm your average SoCal dude. Lowered cars, ridiculously lifted trucks-I've done them all.
Are you a slow and show or a fast and go type of rider?
I ride fast. I'm a magnet for the CHP. I know it's not something that should be promoted but I honestly feel that driving offensively is the best plan in traffic. As far as taking the bike out in the twisties...I certainly have my share of fun. A track school years ago really boosted my confidence and skill level.
Who is the craziest celebrity you have ever met?
Jay Mohr comes to mind. He's one of the sharpest and most quick-witted comedians I've ever met. And, he's certifiably insane. Although he's not "crazy," Dave Grohl is one of the funniest rock stars on the planet.
You are also the owner of a few clothing companies. What are they and why would you choose to branch off into the apparel market?
Long Beach Clothing Co. (longbeachclothing.com) and Western Division (westerndivision.com). Both companies were developed for the same reason: to display pride. Long Beach Clothing is specifically for those in love with the LBC. Western Division is solely focused on West Coast Pride. We're almost militant about our pride.
What absolutely pisses you off?
Narrowed down to one item I think I'm going to have to go with people who say, "I seen." I can't stand when people say, "I seen this guy standing there." It's "I saw!" It's never been "I seen," and it never will be!
