A great alternative to hot and sticky leather is a textile jacket, especially when you want to stay cool without sacrificing protection. Textile jackets come in a variety of types and materials that provide nearly as much airflow as riding around in a t-shirt, but are obviously a lot safer.
Depending on the construction, some jackets can even be used during the colder months as well. Styles range from a factory racer look to basic solid colors and everything in the middle. Most have built-in armor to take the impact in a crash, and abrasion resistant materials that help during a slide.
Now we wouldn't recommend hitting the track in textile gear, but a good textile jacket should be the first choice on a hot day or for a quick ride out to bike night. So rather than making excuses that it's too hot for a jacket, add a textile to your gear closet and always ride protected--regardless of the weather.
