The mere mention of a leather motorcycle jacket to most people evokes images of James Dean, Elvis or some other old fart in a solid black jacket complete with chrome buckles and snaps. Truth is, leather bike jackets come in various styles-not just the black rocker variety.

The typical black buckle bomber made popular in the movies is an option, but more appropriate for Harley dudes or nights out to the Blue Oyster. Proper styles range from racetrack rockstar to the fabulously fashion conscious. And if you desire your jacket to double as part two of a full set of leathers, many feature built-in zippers to attach leather pants.

There are jackets that look as much at home in the club as they do at bike nights so there's no excuse for not rocking the leather.

Race style jackets tend to be more form fitting, while street gear has a relaxed fit. Sizing varies depending on the company, so it's best to get your "try on" before you get your "buy on."

When the mercury rises during the hot summer months, a leather jacket might not be your first choice for a leisurely Sunday cruise.
