Prior to trying the S-MX 2 boots from A-Stars I'd always worn full-length race boots on the street. Honestly, I don't know why I never considered anything else when shopping for boots, because after my first ride in the S-MX 2s I instantly saw the light.
They offer great protection, significant support and feature a stiff sole, all things I look for in a street boot. The mid-length design is nice on the street since it allows for freer movement and far more comfort than clunky race shoes. But don't worry; they still support your foot and cover your ankle in the event of an accident.
While the replaceable toe sliders and reinforced shifter pad are nice features, I really dig the easy closure system that's a cinch to operate. The fact I sprang for the waterproof model has paid dividends on more than one occasion, however I wish they did breath a little better because a hot-weather ride has my twinkle toes sweating more than I'd like. But I'd trade a proper waterproof boot for a cool one any day of the week, and with a price of just $189 I'd say A-Stars has got you covered...your feet, anyways.
If you're looking for a simple street boot that's just plain good, the S-MX 2 just might be the perfect new digs for your feet. And if all black is too drab for your taste there are different color options.
