Considering that oil is the lifeblood of any internal combustion engine, shouldn't using the best stuff available be priority number one? I've always stood by the old saying that, "oil is cheap, rebuilding a motor isn't," and have been a proponent of high performance oils for some time. I discovered Amsoil several years ago and although I'd heard many great things I hadn't tried it. Independent oil studies scored Amsoil at (or near) the top in every category, and thanks to the complex additives the service intervals could be extended to double what the manufacturer requires. After locating a local dealer I added the slippery stuff to all my vehicles and now swear by it. The first thing I noticed in all my motorcycles was less valvetrain noise and super slick shifting. I could feel an obvious improvement in shifting over other synthetic oils I'd used. As for the cars, I noticed less dry-fire noise on start-up and the oil looked better when it was drained thousands of miles later. The value of Amsoil hit home when I sent my used oil to an oil test center to be analyzed-a practice I've done for years. Since Amsoil claimed I could use the oil for 6000 miles, change the oil filter, add another quart and go another 6000 miles I decided to give it a try. Needless to say, the 12,000-mile used Amsoil tested better than my previous synthetic oil had at 7500 miles. That's nearly double the miles and it still offered better protection.
