Sportbike riders generally reach for leather over textile not only for style but also protection. While I can’t argue that leather is obviously preferable to fabric in a crash, the style game has changed. Furthermore, when you’re caught in a rainstorm or other difficult weather (95-degree rides in a leather jacket aren’t pleasant) leather is more of a burden than a blessing.
That’s where the T-Gasoline slots in as the perfect second jacket to your faithful leather, or for those who are more concerned with function over form it would be a good candidate for your go-to garb. It’s warm enough for cold mornings, but once it heats up you can remove the long-sleeve liner and stay cool. That’s exactly what I did on a weekend ride that started at the coast and ended up in the desert where there was a thirty-degree temperature spike. My leather-clad compadres were sweating it out but I was riding cool.
The other big advantage over leather is full weather protection. I’ve only tested the waterproof capabilities in a mix of fog and sprinkling rain, but I remained perfectly dry and comfortable. Had I been wrapped in cowhide it would have been a much colder and wetter experience.
