When it comes to lane splitting in heavy LA traffic, retractable bar-end mirrors are a must. The first thing I do coming off the exit of the 405 freeway is fold the CRG mirrors into the bars and I’m able to fit through tight spaces with room to spare. Once clear of the caging herd, I flip the mirrors back to their legal position. With wear, however, they do not return to their previous adjustment without an extra nudge.
Though convenient, these mirrors do have their quirks. As they sit just above the handlebar, I have to pull my attention away from what’s ahead longer than I’d like and as the mirrored surface is flat, my field of view is limited. Though I love the sleek, café-racer look these mirrors give the Gixxer, I do miss the broad rear view stock mirrors provide.
The CRG mirrors have been removed and reinstalled many times for track days, which only takes a few minutes. But as they have several small, separate components, you have to be mindful not to lose them. After more than 16,500 miles, the only parts wearing out are the O-rings. If bar end mirrors are your thing, you’ll love the CRG’s.
