Desert Pavement
Imagine a busy freeway at peak rush hour with hills, no lanes and vehicles going in every direction at top speed. That pretty much sums up what the Glamis Dunes east of Sand Diego, California, are like on New Year's Eve. STD Productions and Big Block Entertainment decided to throw a New Year's Eve party right in the middle of the chaos that included live music, FMX freestyle and streebike stunts. Stunts in the desert? A large strip of asphalt was placed smack dab in the middle of the dunes for the Tek9-sponsored stunt show featuring riders Eric Whitcomb, HitMan, C-Stacks and Troy Hoff. High winds and cold temperatures affected attendance, but those who braved the weather were treated to a concert by DJ Mike Smithers, Theory of Flight, and the appropriately named Dune Squad to bring in the New Year.
Long Beach
International Motorcycle Show:With the historic Queen Mary docked in the distance, the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, California, served as host for the 27th annual International Motorcycle Show. The series has 12 stops across the country and puts consumers face to face with the newest models from manufactures as well the opportunity to purchase the latest gear and accessories.
Suzuki displayed its redesigned GSX-Rs in all the available colors, Honda gave the public its first glimpse of the controversially styled new CBR1000RR, while Yamaha showed off a handful of custom R1s from McCoy Motorsports.
The show also served as the platform to unveil many one-off customs from a who's who of builders and hometown heroes. KTM unveiled the Jessie Rooke-inspired KTM 950, Two Brothers Racing showed what it can do with a Kawasaki ZX-6R built especially for James Stewart, while Roland Sands added his flair to a 2007 Honda CBR1000RR.
The custom bike show contained the usual SoCal suspects including Tek9 Cycles, Burn Films and Eye Candy Cycle Designs. Scott Wolf stopped onlookers in their tracks with his chromed-out Honda RC51 with a Playstation 2 rocking out to Guitar Hero hooked up to twin monitors.
