Mikey Slowe ran the table in pro street, winning from the pole, running low E.T. of every round and setting a new elapsed time record.
The 2009 AMA Dragbike opening event in Valdosta saw the largest crowds and racer participation since the series started coming to South Georgia Motorsports Park.
Absent from the Pro Street wars were three notable racers though: Barry Henson and Kent Stotz sat out the event, and possibly the season, due to a perceived ambiguity in the rules concerning traction control, while Walter Sprout blew up a motor the previous week.
Still, new blood filled the class which continues to feature the most technologically advanced motorcycles in the sport. The Pro Street story at Valdosta was much as it has been over the last few seasons: three-time champ Mikey Slowe took the win from the pole, setting a new national elapsed time record in the process at 7.171 seconds.
The best racing action of the weekend came in Real Street, where an off-season rule tipped the advantage from turbos to the nitrous bikes, which in turn dominated the event.
Del Flores qualified on the Real Street pole with the XXX Race Fuels nitrous 'Busa and went on to set the record on Sunday at 8.130 seconds. Eliminations were thrilling as a new rider would step up to record the quick lap of every round including the quickest of the day, Keith Thompson at 8.11 seconds.
Reigning champ Jeremy Teasley, the lone turbo rider to make the semifinal, was taken out by eventual winner John Hall on his stretched-out and juiced-up GSX-R1000.
