We've all seen pics of cleanly snapped off GSX-R 1000 front ends, but never really wanted to believe it. But at last, it seems Suzuki has finally manned up to the problem and is recalling about 26,000 of its GSX-R1000 models from the 2005-2006 model years.
From the press release it stated that, "Repeated hard landings from hazardous maneuvers such as extended wheelies or other stunts may generate sufficient stress to cause the problem."
The long and short of it seems to be that wannabe stunter dudes who slam down wheelies could break the front end of the bike off. That's a pretty sharp penalty for missing a shift. Moral of the story-practice your stunts on something else, or...
Take it to a dealer where the frame will be inspected for cracks. If any are found, the frame will be replaced. And if no problems are found, a frame reinforcement brace will be added free of charge.
