It seems that Fridays in Indianapolis are always wet, because just like 2008's event, the Friday session was soaked. The initial drizzle had little effect on the early qualifying runs, but by the time number one ranked Bill Dixon went out it was coming down in buckets. The rain persisted and built up standing water nearly six inches deep at the curbs. Dixon seemed unfazed though, and still managed to roll insane stoppies and hang tight wheelies.
The bad weather tapered off just in time for the popular Circle Wheelie challenge. Aaron Twite easily beat all his challengers and took the crown.
The competitors then quickly lined up for the FMF Cup. Because the 2009 series title had already been awarded to Bill Dixon after the previous round, the riders let it all hang out with nothing to lose.
Bill Dixon must be part duck,...
Bill Dixon must be part duck, because the saturated surface didn't seem to hurt his run as he shows confidence in his tires.
Almost oblivious to the poor conditions, Brian Bubash scored his first-ever XDL FMF Cup win. He was on his game and nobody else could challenge him for the victory.
This year's anticlimactic FMF Cup conclusion was expected because Bill Dixon was simply flawless all year. Now that his challengers have seen his "A-game" they can prepare for battle next year. It should be pretty intense.
Thankfully, the weather cleared up for Saturday's contests and the fans were given a treat. The main event of the day was the Speed & Strength Sickest Trick competition, and the largest field ever lined up to wow the crowd. The end result was a bit of a surprise as Chris McNeil's odd drift into stoppie took top honors over some of the other competitors' amazing displays of acrobatics, but the crowd saw an insane show regardless of the technical standings.
