It's a sad time in the bike industry. After 26 years in the business, Erik Buell announced that Buell Motorcycles will be shutting up shop. This came as a surprise, particularly after Buell's recent success in the AMA race series. But sadly, race wins weren't enough to save the firm from the economic meltdown and credit crunch.
Erik Buell offered one last lament: "I will always be proud of what we have accomplished. It is a testimony to what a small group of passionate and inspired people can do, and with brilliant innovations, we've produced some of the best-handling bikes of all time."
On the positive side, Buell shops across the country are offering the deals of the decade on the entire Buell line. If you were ever thinking of owning one, now's the time. Warranties are all still honored, so it'd be a safe play to own a piece of the legendary American sportbike.
There are rumors of numerous bands of passionate gazillionaires trying to save the Buell marque, but we find those reports unlikely to come to fruition. And that means the remaining Buells are gonna go quickly. If you haven't experienced a Buell you'd better go try one out before it's too late. Who knows, you might fall in love.
