No expensive permits are needed to roll your ride right onto the beach.
Traffic jams, ambulances and round the clock exhaust noise is Daytona Bike Week in a nutshell. Each year hundreds of thousands of bikers from across the country clenched by winter's grasp make the trek to the beaches of Daytona in hopes of warm weather and cold beer. Unfortunately this year someone forgot to tell Mother Nature as the mercury barley crested the mid-century mark. Despite the unusually cold temperatures, the custom sportbike crowd once again claimed the famed Hess gas station as its home base. In years past the most bizarre two wheel creations have made an appearance, and this year was no exception.

Daytona is also one of the last places in the country where the average Joe can roll his ride on to the white beaches to snap a few pictures. While most of the action is focused around racing or boulevard stomping, there were a few events like WyoTech's Brute Horsepower Shootout where owners put their motors where their mouths were for an all out, run what your brung dyno test. Todd Erickson's ZX-11 annihilated the competition with a 580 HP pull, but later exploded in an attempt to raise the bar. No one said winning was cheap.
After a week's worth of motorcycle activities, the rumblings and hangovers subsided and the town of Daytona returned to its spring slumber until the motorcycle masses return next year.

While going for broke, Todd Erickson's ZX-11 motor did just that. He tried to bump his 528 HP run into the 700 range, but his motor said no.
