Maybe the old adage that everything's bigger in Texas is true because the creme de la creme is coming to the Lone Star State. Starting in 2013, MotoGP will be hosted at the new (yet to be built) Circuit of the Americas in Austin on a ten-year contract. Although this move might come as a surprise to many, a look into the past reveals a rich history of two-wheeled Texans.
"For me this is a dream come true, that the FIM MotoGP World Championship will be in my home state of Texas. I am a believer in the sport and know how popular motorcycling is in Texas. I am sure that this will be a resounding long term success," said former MotoGP champ Kevin Schwantz.
This is a big deal and we tip our hats to the Texans for landing such a grand event. Aside from the moto-fanatical Spaniards, the US is the only other country to host three MotoGPs. And this is from nothing just a few years ago.
