2005 Hayabusa Owner's Gathering
Held In Conjunction With Suzuki's 20th Anniversary Celebration Of Its GSX-R Model Line, Over 100 Hayabusa Owners From Around The Country Gathered In Colorado To Share Their Enthusiasm For The Biggest Gixxer Of All
This past August the Mile High 'Busa Owners Association (MHBO (www.milehighbusaowners.com) of Colorado hosted the first annual Hayabusa Owner's Gathering as part of Suzuki Cycle Fest in Copper Mountain, Colorado. The event was conceived as a way for 'Busa owners from around the United States and Canada to get together and celebrate their passion for Suzuki's ultimate speed machine, the GSX1300R Hayabusa. Planning for the event started back in 2004 with ideas flying around hayabusa.org about a national rally for 'Busa owners. After numerous suggestions were submitted, it was decided the gathering site should be more or less centrally located to make it easily accessible, and it should also offer great riding terrain. The choices were quickly narrowed down to Colorado or Arkansas, and when it was discovered that American Suzuki was hosting its GSX-R 20th Anniversary celebration at Cycle Fest in Copper Mountain, Colorado, that became the unanimous choice.
As an inaugural event, MHBO wanted this gathering to be memorable. With over 100 'Busas expected to show up from as far away as British Columbia and Florida, MHBO wanted to make an event that would be well worth the trip. In addition to the expected meet-and-greet activities, MHBO also organized an all 'Busa bike show, street rides in the surrounding mountains, a horsepower shootout (using a portable dyno) and door prize giveaways provided by event sponsors American Suzuki, Fay Myers Motorcycle World and Super Streetbike magazine. The 'Busa bike show was by far the most popular attraction, with the best-of-show award going to Tiffany Gorman from Omaha, Nebraska, and her blue-and-chrome '02 Hayabusa, followed by James Jandreau in second and Todd Kimball in third. Kimball also took home the prize for "Best Paint," while Gorman added a "Best Chassis" trophy to her collection, and Maurice Ohlsen took home the award for "Best Engine." Highest horsepower number posted on the dyno was by Jake Balegian's 275-hp turbo 'Busa, though the most powerful bike in the crowd had to be MHBO-member Korry Hogan's record-breaking, AMA/Prostar championship-winning "Hayabusa" funnybike. Luckily, Hogan's bike was there for display purposes only, as the 600 hp output of its alcohol-injected motor would have wiped up on Balegian's number.

Think You've Got A Fast Streetbike?Well, prove it! Join us at the Maxton Monster Mile next September for our first annual top speed shootout where we'll crown the fastest streetbikes in America!
Organized in conjunction with the East Coast Timing Association at the world-famous Maxton Monster Mile in Maxton, North Carolina, the event will be held on the weekend of Sept. 23-24, 2006 (rain date: Oct. 28-29). Our Top Speed Shootout will pit bikes in six separate classes against each other to see who has the fastest bikes in America measured by top speed, posted on Maxton's standing start, one-mile course. Bikes will be eligible to race in six classes: 600cc all motor; 600cc plus one power adder (nitrous, turbo or supercharger); 1000cc all motor; 1000cc plus one power adder; unlimited cc all-motor; and unlimited cc plus one power adder. To encourage the hot-rodding spirit, rules will be virtually anything goes. The class displacements refer to the engine cases only-if you can get 800ccs out of a 600 motor and keep it together you're eligible for the 600cc class. All bikes will need to conform to the ECTA safety rules, otherwise anything goes! In addition to the six classes outlined above, there will also be a target mph contest with an award going to the rider who breaks the timing beam closest to 150.000 mph, making virtually anyone with a sportbike able to get involved in this contest. Winners will each receive an "ECTA/Super Streetbike Fastest Streetbike in America" riding jacket and, of course, the undeniable bragging rights that go along with indisputably owning one of the fastest bikes in the country. Keep watching this space for more information, or log on to www.ecta-lsr.com to view the complete Top Speed Shootout rules and find out everything you need to know to get started building your bike up to win this event. We look forward to seeing you in Maxton next September!
