The brothers Brunelle from Geared Up Productions entertain the crowd during some downtime with a little up-in-the-air acrobatic action.
Although some might consider it a bit presumptuous to bill your first-ever event as "National Championships," the newly formed National Stunt Riding Association backed up this bit of braggadocio by attracting some of the big names in stunting from the East Coast and Midwest (not to mention the stunt stronghold of Florida, where the event was held) down to the Gainesville Raceway for its inaugural event. In the end it was Miami heavyweight "Downtown" Joe Brown wheelying his pimped-out CBR929RR to victory, though Geared Up's Aaron Brunelle (2nd) and Vertical Outlaw's Joe Dryden (3rd) kept Brown busy all day long. Here are the highlights.
More airborne hi-jinks from Geared Up. In this maneuver, the flying guy starts out standing on the shoulders of the rider, launching off once the rider lifts an endo. | NSRA boss-man Bryan Hand presenting the winner of the Honda CRF50 raffle with his prize. | Judge, jury and executioner. The NSRA scoring committee looking crunk in coordinating polo shirts and trucker hats. |
Sleeping beauty? | An oldie but a goodie: A clean flamingo wheelie pulled off by Preston Tyson of Team Drastic Measures. | Recently engaged Cat and Steve of Evasive Actions get a head start on their honeymoon with this tandem wheelie on their Super Chicken. |
Smooth no-hander by Anthony D'Orsi. Check the new paintwork on Ant's super-clean CBR929 streetfighter, including the trick yellow-to-white fade on the wheels and the whiteout frame. | Burn, crash: Chris Gousse lays his bike down at the end of a long burnout run. | Tyson loses his footing at the end of his burnout run. |
Chris Gousse of Vertical Outlaws rocks a slow stand-up. | Gousse's teammate, Joe Dryden, lights up the rear tire with a crossover burnout. | Wanna become part of the "NSRA Girls" marketing team? Ping them at Nsragirls@stuntnsra.com (girls only!) to find out how you can help out when the NSRA comes to your town. |
 | New rule--every stunt article in SSB must include at least one shot of John Risconsin rockin' a no-hander. | Bring the Payne--Pure Bred Riders' Rick Payne rolling a tall endo. |
The 15 finalists. | An arrow-straight handstand from Aaron Brunelle, one of the moves he used to help him hold down second-place overall in the NSRA National Championships competition. | Another over-the-top watchtower variation from Jacob "Monkey Boy" Brunelle. |
"Downtown" Joe Brown, the weekend's big winner, looking relaxed as can be rolling another sit-down no-hander. This tiny thumbnail hardly does Brown's recently redone bike justice--with new deep-blue paint, a white-coated frame and wheels and intricate ghost flames applied to the exhaust can, Brown's stunt iron wouldn't be at all out of place in one of the custom bike galleries in this magazine. | John Leavell almost into a switchback atop his still-straight (mostly!) F4i. | "Sho Nuff" and all-star Matt Gorka get cozy at an afterparty. |
